Gorbek is a former mercenary officer who has been called into a new life as a cleric serving the Dwarven god of war, Clangeddin Silverbeard. He refuses to speak of where he hails from, but his enduring hatred for Orcs, Goblins, and the creatures of the Underdark sheds light on the tragedy that must have taken place. Having apprenticed as an armor smith under his father, Gorbek fled his ruined home an joined up with a band of mercenaries operating in the mountains north of Neverwinter. The so-called “Free Company” soon pressed him into a combat role and Gorbek distinguished himself as a cavalry officer, leading the men into battle atop his prized war pony.
Gorbek served with this unit for over two decades until he was thrown from his horse during a raid on a village and was knocked unconscious. While unconscious, he was granted a vision from Clangeddin Silverbeard— calling him to caste away his old life and devote himself to fighting for a higher purpose. While Gorbek retains his rough-around-the-edges mannerisms from his time with the Free Company, he has become more serious and his life has taken on a new focus. He has made it his life mission to empower his fellow Dwarves to restore their territory lost to the centuries of conflict with Orcs, Goblins, and other denizens of the Underdark. To this end, he seeks to empart the knowledge of combat onto his brethren and lead them into battle whenever given the chance.
Brash, crude, and sometimes a bit reckless, Gorbek is nevertheless an honorable Dwarf who bristles at injustice and seeks to improve whichever part of the world he finds himself in. Loyal to a fault, fearless in battle (except against dragons), and willing to risk everything to help his friends, Gorbek is a good addition to any adventuring group.
